Wandile Mthiyane
Andrews University, Berrien Spings MI.

Bio: My name is Wandile Mthiyane. I am a Master of Architecture student and the founder of Ubuntu Design Group. I grew up in a shantytown in Durban, South Africa, and I believe in using architecture as a vehicle to restore communities’ dignity. I am currently working on partnering with shantytown communities to build sustainable, efficient and affordable housing and infrastructure. I am passionate about a design approach that empowers people by capitalizing upon the creative energy and spirit that they possess, as well as through collaboration with the architects and engineers for their community. In the last three years I've had the invaluable privilege of winning the Resolution Project at One Young World with Ubuntu Design Group, and recently we have been afforded a lifetime opportunity to pitch our half-house project at the United Nations!

  1. Hi Wandile, I have recently read about your initiative through Ubuntu Design Group /the, Resolution Group, partnered with eThekwini – in particular the Mtshali home and improved housing.
I’ve been involved in the Communal areas in KZN and Durban in particular for many years, dealing with land rights /security of tenure /boundaries.
If possible I would like to meet and share thoughts with you and /or team members around ongoing development.
I would like to phone and discuss this possibility.
